Terms Of Service

Please read this carefully

Last updated: 10 September 2026. Effective from the same date.

The short version

  • You own everything you write. We claim no rights over your book.
  • We never use your writing to train AI models.
  • Your subscription is sold by Creem, our merchant of record, who handles billing, tax, and invoices.
  • Cancel any time. We offer a full refund within eight days of your first payment.
  • AI suggestions are a tool, not an author. What you publish is your responsibility.

The full terms follow. They are a binding agreement, so please read them.

1. Who we are

AuthorFlows is a browser-based novel writing studio built and run by its two founders, based in Casablanca and Meknes, Morocco. AuthorFlows is the name we trade under.

These Terms govern your use of authorflows.com and the AuthorFlows studio (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data and forms part of these Terms.

2. Who can use AuthorFlows

You may use the Service if you are at least 16, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if that is lower, and never below 13. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You also confirm you have the legal capacity to enter this agreement and are not barred from using the Service under any applicable law or sanctions programme.

3. Your account

  • Keep your login details private. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
  • Tell us at support@authorflows.com as soon as you suspect someone else has got in.
  • Accounts are for one person. You may share your login at your own risk, and you accept the consequences, including anyone copying or stealing unpublished story ideas, plots, or characters.
  • Give us accurate information and keep it up to date.

4. Your writing stays yours

You own it. You keep all rights to everything you create in AuthorFlows, including manuscripts, outlines, characters, story maps, timelines, and notes ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership.

The limited permission you give us. So that we can actually run the Service, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, encrypt, transmit, reformat, and display Your Content to you, and to send the relevant parts to our AI providers when you trigger an AI feature. That permission exists only so the Service works. It ends when you delete Your Content or your account, apart from encrypted backups that are overwritten on our normal cycle.

We will not publish, distribute, sell, licence, or publicly display Your Content, and we will not use it to train AI models.

Your content is private. No other user can see or edit it. We look at it only when you ask us to for support, when we must investigate a security or abuse problem, or when the law requires it.

Your responsibility. You are responsible for what you write and for making sure it does not infringe anyone's rights or break the law. Fiction goes to dark places and we do not police creative content. What is actually prohibited is in section 6.

5. AI features

How they work. AI only runs when you actively trigger it: typing "/" to continue writing, selecting a paragraph to rephrase, expand, summarise, or improve, generating an outline, or running the Story Analyzer. The relevant text goes to OpenRouter, our AI infrastructure provider, which routes it to the language model that generates the response. Our providers are contractually barred from using your content to train their models. The full mechanism is in our Privacy Policy.

Nothing runs without you. If you never trigger an AI action, nothing you write is sent to an AI provider. When you start a new story, you can also choose to build your outline entirely by hand instead of generating it with AI.

What we do not promise. AI output is generated text. It can be inaccurate, inconsistent with your story, or similar to text generated for someone else. It is a drafting aid, not an editor and not a fact-checker. You are responsible for reviewing and deciding what to keep. We do not warrant that AI output is accurate, original, or free of third-party rights, and you should not rely on it as professional advice.

Copyright in AI-assisted writing. Countries treat this differently, and in some, including the United States, material generated purely by AI without meaningful human authorship may not be protectable at all. As between you and us, any rights in AI output produced for you are yours. Whether it is protectable where you publish is a matter of local law. If it affects your publishing plans, take advice.

Disclosure. Some retailers, competitions, and countries require you to disclose AI use in published work. Meeting those requirements is your responsibility.

6. What is not allowed

You agree not to use AuthorFlows to do any of the following.

  • Break the law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
  • Create or store child sexual abuse material, or any content that sexualises minors.
  • Produce content that incites violence against real people, or that harasses, threatens, or defames a real person.
  • Upload malware or malicious code, or attempt to hack, overload, scrape, reverse engineer, or otherwise disrupt the Service or its security.
  • Engage in spam, phishing, fraud, or impersonation.
  • Resell, sublicense, or hand the Service to third parties, or use it to build a competing product.
  • Get around usage limits, or access the Service through automated tools we have not authorised.
  • Share your account in a way that amounts to giving multiple people a single paid seat.

7. Suspension and termination

We would rather fix a problem than close an account, so here is exactly how this works.

Suspension first, in most cases. If we detect or are told about misuse of an account, including unauthorised access, a breach of section 6, or activity that harms other users or the Service, we may temporarily suspend or restrict that account. Suspension is not permanent. Once the issue is resolved and no further violations follow, the account can be reopened. We will tell you why, unless the law prevents us, and you can reply to that notice to appeal.

When we terminate instead. We may suspend or terminate an account outright where the breach is serious, where it is repeated after a warning, where the law requires it, or where continued use creates a real legal or security risk. Serious cases, such as content involving the sexual exploitation of minors, are terminated immediately and without warning.

Ending it yourself. You can close your account at any time from your settings or by emailing support@authorflows.com. You do not need a reason.

What happens to your work. Export your writing before you close your account. Once an account is closed, suspended, or you email us to delete your data, we remove your content within three days. Deletion is permanent and we cannot recover it. Copies may remain in encrypted backups until those are overwritten on our normal cycle.

If we terminate your account for a reason other than a serious breach, we will give you at least 30 days to export your work first.

Refunds when an account ends. If we close your account without cause, we refund the unused part of your current billing period. If we close it because you seriously broke these Terms, no refund is due beyond what the law requires. Closing your account after the eight-day refund window does not entitle you to a refund of fees already paid.

8. Subscriptions, billing, and tax

Who sells you the subscription. Subscriptions are sold by Armitage Labs OÜ, trading as Creem, at Telliskivi Street 57b/1, Tallinn 10412, Estonia, acting as merchant of record. Creem is the legal seller of your subscription, issues your invoice, and calculates and remits VAT and sales tax. Your purchase is therefore also covered by Creem's Buyer Terms. Where those conflict with these Terms on payment matters, Creem's terms take precedence.

Prices. Current plans and prices are on our pricing page. Depending on your billing address, prices may show with or without tax, and the final amount including tax is always shown at checkout before you pay.

Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period, monthly or yearly depending on your plan, at the price then in force, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the customer portal linked in your purchase receipt, or by emailing us. Cancelling stops future charges, and your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.

Price changes. If we change the price of your plan, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies. You can cancel before it takes effect. Carrying on after that date means you accept the new price.

Failed payments. If a payment fails we may retry it and may suspend access until it goes through. We will not delete your work because a payment failed.

9. Refunds

Our eight-day refund. If AuthorFlows is not right for you, email support@authorflows.com within eight days of your first payment and we will refund it in full. Refunds are issued by Creem as merchant of record, normally within 5 to 7 business days of approval.

Renewal payments are not automatically refundable. If a renewal caught you by surprise, tell us and we will look at it fairly.

If you are an EU or UK consumer. Consumers normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a distance contract. Because AuthorFlows is digital content delivered immediately, at checkout you are asked to agree to immediate access and to acknowledge that this ends the statutory withdrawal right. That step is handled by Creem as merchant of record. Our own eight-day refund is offered voluntarily on top of that and applies regardless. Neither affects your legal remedies if the Service is faulty or not as described.

10. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep AuthorFlows running and your work safe, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. Maintenance, updates, and occasional faults happen, and we will give notice of planned downtime where we reasonably can.

We improve the Service continuously and may add, change, or remove features. If we remove a feature you depend on in a way that materially reduces what your plan is worth, we will tell you at least 30 days beforehand and you may cancel and get a pro-rata refund for the rest of your period.

11. Our intellectual property

The Service itself, including its software, design, branding, and the content we produce, belongs to us and our licensors. These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the Service while your account is active. Nothing here transfers our intellectual property to you.

12. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on AuthorFlows infringes your copyright, email support@authorflows.com with your contact details, identification of the work, where the material is, a statement that you believe in good faith the use is unauthorised, a statement that your notice is accurate, and your signature. We investigate valid notices, remove infringing material where appropriate, and may terminate repeat infringers. Note that manuscripts stored in AuthorFlows are private and are not published by us.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that AI output will meet your expectations, or that your writing will sell.

Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law, including your statutory right to digital content that is as described and of satisfactory quality.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, or lost goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 USD.

These limits do not apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence, to fraud, to our gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or to any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Please back up your work. We keep backups, but you are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Export is free and always available.

15. Indemnity

If you use the Service in breach of these Terms or the law and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and legal costs. This does not apply where the claim comes from our own breach or negligence. If you are a consumer, this section applies only as far as the law protecting you allows.

16. Governing law and disputes

Talk to us first. Most problems are solved by email. Write to support@authorflows.com and we will try to resolve it within 30 days.

Governing law. The laws of Morocco, excluding its conflict of law rules, govern these Terms and your use of the Service. Your use may also be subject to other local, national, or international laws.

Arbitration. Except where the next paragraph applies, any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms will be resolved through binding individual arbitration. You agree to bring claims individually and not as part of a class action, and you and we waive the right to a jury trial. Small claims remain available where your local rules allow.

If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, nothing above removes the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you keep the right to bring proceedings in your local courts. EU consumers can also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform. Disputes about the purchase itself may fall under Creem's terms and Estonian consumer procedures.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the studio. If you keep using the Service after that date, the new Terms apply. If you do not agree, you can cancel and, where you paid in advance, receive a pro-rata refund for the unused period.

18. General

  • Severability. If any part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still stands.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your account or these Terms without our consent. We may transfer them to a successor if the business is sold, and we will tell you.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
  • Survival. The sections on content ownership, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and governing law continue to apply after termination.
